Representative Democracy (Republic) A representative democracy is also known as a republic. In this form of government, a country is ruled by representatives that have been elected by the citizens. In a republic, all citizens have the right to vote and the power of the government is limited by a constitution. The people vote for representatives and those people decided what to do. Direct Democracy A direct democracy is a form of government where everyone gets to vote on all laws. Oligarchy An oligarchy is a form of government where a country is ruled by a small group of people. (A few of us want to go to the Olive Garden. Oligarchy is ruled by a few!)
