Uses of haber ¿Cuántos estados hay en este país?

Uses of haber The impersonal form of haber is always used in the third person singular. The present tense form is hay (there is, there are). Creo que hay tiempo para ver la tele. Hay muchas revistas en la mesa.

Uses of haber The impersonal form of haber in the preterite tense is hubo. The impersonal form of haber in the imperfect tense is había. Both forms mean there was or there were. Hubo un documental en la tele anoche. Ayer hubo dos reuniones. Todos los días había un reportaje especial sobre la crisis. Había dos periodistas en la sala cuando entré.

Uses of haber The impersonal form of haber in the present subjunctive is haya. Dudo que haya un periódico aquí. I doubt there is a newspaper here. No creo que haya telenovelas buenas. I don’t believe there are good soap operas.
