WISE and WISE-Marine Water Information System for Europe and Water Information System for Europe (coming in 2010 with Marine data to a web- site near you) Trine Christiansen Beate Werner

Status of WISE-Marine Originates as the Marine component of WISE (Water Information System for Europe) Concept paper in country consultation Autumn 2008: implementation plan will be developed 2009 Finalize implementation plan and start implementation.

Wise and Wise-Marine are based on SEIS Principles information should be managed as close as possible to its source information is provided once and shared with others for many purposes data and information should be readily accessible to end-users to enable them to access it timely information should be made available to the public after due consideration of the appropriate level of aggregation, given possible confidentiality constraints, and at national level in the national language(s)

SEIS sharing principles picked up in WISE implementation plan

WISE conceptual, long term aim is: Efficient management of all water-related information on EU level Coherence between all EU relevant reporting mechanisms and needs, including indicator assessments Access to information / data for all relevant EU level purposes and needs in a Shared Information System

Water Information System for Europe

From European level to stations

Information from Eionet in WISE Planned update with TC nutrient and chl-a data

Themes and Data given by the MSFD: Fisheries, Climate change, Eutrophication, Oil pollution, Pressures on coastal habitats, Contamination of the marine environment with hazardous substances, Litter pollution, Microbial pollution, Seabed disturbance, Radionuclide discharges, Marine noise pollution.

Raw monitoring data Raw satellite data Raw model output Compliance reporting on environmental state Data that are aggregated by monitoring station (delivered by Member States) Marine Core Service products from satellites and models (delivered by research institutions across Europe) EEA needs Marine Convention and Rearch Community needs Commission need Scientific Papers and National and Regional Assessments EEA pan- European State of the Environment assessments Data aggregation level? EMODNET

GIS-facility

Differences between WISE and WISE- Marine More different types of information should be accessible 3D environment, satellites, models, Forecasts More different policy tools. MSFD, WFD, MP, CFP, transport and energy policies A larger number of partners will supply the information to WISE-Marine. Maps of Habitats Shipping routes Sea bottom mapping project

Through EMODNET link to National Monitoring Data Physical and chemical vertical profile observations of water constituents in points (time series of concentrations) Biological point observations (time series of species (including fish)) Biological spatial information (maps of species coverage ) Concentrations of hazardous substances

GMES Marine Core Service data Physical and chemical vertical profile observations of water constituents in points (high frequency time series of temperature and salinity used for assimilation in models) Physical and chemical spatial information from satellites and models (high resolution maps of satellite images and model results) Active information (movies of hindcast or forecasts maps produced by models).
