THE GARDEN OF REPRESENTATIVE SELF-GOVERNMENT

 Students can be divided into groups by components: water, soil, seeds, sunlight, air, flowers  Each group can explain the significance of their component.  Students can then move into heterogeneous groups and create small group displays or the whole class can do one big one.

WHAT’S GROWING IN THE GARDEN OF REPRESENTATIVE SELF-GOVERNMENT?  Flowers=Virginia House of Burgesses, Mayflower Compact (1620), Fundamental Orders of Connecticut, Pennsylvania’s Frame of Government, town meetings  The flower petals should describe/define the example of self- government.

WHAT COMPONENTS MAKE GROWTH POSSIBLE? SUNLIGHT  Sunlight= Distance between the Great Britain and the 13 colonies;  Rays of sunshine should explain the significance of the distance  salutary neglect- practice of England ignoring the economic and political actions of the 13 colonies
