High School Soccer FAQ Ramon G Aguillon ZCHS Girls Soccer Varsity Head Coach

WHAT DOES ZCHS SOCCER OFFER? High level of coaching – Nationally licensed coaches (USSF, NSCAA) – Experience coaching at HS level – Experience coaching girls soccer – Personal level of attention and care for players as people – Coaches who have played the game college/professionally High level of competition – Play against the top girls soccer players ages U14-U18 – Lady Eagle Invitational: Best HS tournament in region/nation. Play against the top girls soccer players from OH, KY ages U14-U18

WHAT DOES ZCHS SOCCER OFFER? Community Involvement Programs – Breast Cancer Awareness Game- raise funds for breast cancer research Leadership and Character Development Programs – “Creando Lazos” (Creating Ties) Camp- soccer camp for undeserved community in Indianapolis Relationships with College Soccer coaches – ZHS Coaching staff in close contact with college programs local/nation – Provide opportunity to help in college recruiting process

WHAT DOES ZCHS SOCCER OFFER? Strength and Conditioning Program – Fitness, weightlifting, explosive movements, injury prevention – Led by certified strength and conditioning coach in brand new state of the art facilities. AT NO COST!! Focus on player development – Goal is for every player to leave HS season better technically/tactically – Choose the best path for each player based on their needs Outstanding facilities – Soccer practice facility with dressing room- 5 full soccer fields – New state of the art gym/workout facility – Use of Football Stadium for practices/games Fun Activities – Pasta dinners, team bonding activities, etc.

HOW LONG IS THE HS SEASON? The official HS regular season begins the first week of August and ends the last week of September The Varsity team competes in the post-season (state tournament) which begins the first week of October and it can last all the way to the last week of that month depending how far the team advances JV/Frosh team do not compete in the state tournament, their season ends last week of September

HOW MANY TEAMS ARE THERE? The Zionsville High School program offers three teams: – Varsity, Junior Varsity and Frosh The Varsity team is mostly made up of upperclassmen (Sr/Jr). Some lowerclassmen (So/Fr) participate. The Junior Varsity team is mostly made up of lowerclassmen (So/Fr). Some Jr. participate. Sr. usually don’t participate on JV team but there can be some exceptions The Frosh team is mostly made up of Freshman players. Some Sophomores participate. Jr/Sr. usually do not participate, but there can be some exceptions

WHAT IS THE SUMMER TRAINING PROGRAM? The summer training program is offered as an opportunity for players to improve their skills and fitness levels in preparation for tryouts It is voluntary, each player has the choice to participate in these sessions Many activities offered: – Weightlifting, Futsal, Open Field sessions, scrimmages, tournaments, team camp, etc. Some activities have a cost, such as tournaments, and official team camp

WHEN DO TRYOUTS START? Tryouts start the first week of August and run for three days (two sessions/day AM and PM) Players are expected to attend all three days Teams are set after the third day and communicated in person Several forms are needed to be completed in advance of tryouts – Physical Form, IMPACT test, Consent Form, etc. (more info provided on call-out meeting)

WHERE ARE PRACTICES/GAMES? Practices are held off school property at 875E practice facility (4400 S 875E Zionsville, IN 46077) Home Games are held off school property at ZYSA Eagle Field. Some games might be played at ZCHS Football Stadium Away games are held in Indianapolis area Varsity/JV team compete in one out of state tournament

COSTS FOR PLAYING HS SOCCER? We do incur several fees for the HS season – Summer Training Fees – Participation fee set by the school – Girls Soccer Regular Season Team fee Information on total cost is provided closer to tryouts date Players receive game uniforms at no cost (returned to school) School provides soccer balls, equipment, etc.

ARE THERE PLAYER CUTS? Program goal is to keep as many if not all Freshmen trying out In some occasions if we have many players trying out, the coaching staff will be forced to make cuts However, we strive to keep as many players as possible especially Freshmen Coaching staff will communicate in advance of tryouts if cuts are expected

IS TRANSPORTATION PROVIDED? Bus Transportation is provided for all away regular season games Parents are responsible to drive players to home games and practices (no school bus) During summer training, no transportation is provided

ARE GAME SCHEDULES THE SAME? Varsity and JV teams have similar schedules JV team plays before Varsity, most of their games are at 5:30PM Varsity games start after JV game ends, around 7:00PM or so Frosh team has separate schedule from JV/Varsity Frosh games usually start at 5:30PM or 7:00PM

CAN PLAYERS MOVE AROUND TEAMS DURING THE SEASON? Each team is assigned specific number players for the season In some cases due to injuries or team needs, some players might be asked to play for another team Parents/Players will be notified in advanced by the head coach in those situations Our goal is to not move players around much during the season if it is not needed Rules exist in place where players cannot play more than 36 halves (18 games) per season regardless of the team

MISCELLANEOUS QUESTIONS Can players play club soccer and HS at the same time during the Fall season? A= No players must play either HS soccer or Club soccer Can players play with their club teams during the summer? A= Yes, they can participate with their club team up until the first day of tryouts Are HS playing rules same as club? A: Yes soccer playing rules are the same including unlimited substitutions. Varsity plays 40 minute halves. JV/Frosh play 35 minute halves.

MISCELLANEOUS QUESTIONS Are there games during Labor Day Weekend? A= Yes, we host our own tournament Friday and Saturday. Parents need to ensure they don’t make vacation plans until Sunday of that weekend. Where can I find all forms needed before tryouts? A: Forms can be found on school athletics website. They will be posted there by early May. What are the rules for club teams once I start playing HS? A: Club teams starting at U15 can only have 6 players of the same high school on the same team. This is per IHSAA rule.
