Ancient China Ancient China was ruled by dynasties. Dynasties were families of kings. China was named after the Chin Dynasty. About 200BC the first Chin emporer orderered a building of a great wall.

The Great Wall of China The Great Wall of China was built along China’s northern border to keep invaders out. The wall was 2250km long and 7m high. The road on top was 6m wide to allow two chariots to pass.

Tombs When an Emporer died, his coffin was placed in a great pit dug in the ground. Everything that he needed for the next world was buried with him such as slaves, his wifes and jade clothes.

Writing The Chinese wrote questions for the gods on flat collor bones of cattle and sheep or tortise shells. They made a hollow at the end of their question They put a hot bronze needle in the hollow. The heat of the needle would crack the hollow. The chinese belived that the cracks told them if the gods said “yes or no!” to their question!

Paper The Chinese made paper from the inner bark of a mulberry tree. About 100AD an Emperor invented Paper.

Printing! The Chinese invented printing. They carved characters on a block of wood! It was then covered in ink. Paper was then placed on the wood and the picture was printed.

Silk! Silk was discovered in China, There wore silk worms on a mulberry tree, the worms left cocoons on the tree! One of the cocoons fell into water and fine strands fell apart. They wore weaved together and it then became silk.

The Silk Road Traders would come and sell silk. They would sell it through Asia and the middle east to Antioch it would come by China and the Mediterranean. It was called the silk road.
