Research for Media production Lewis Green

Plot of the film We chose to interpret our own ideas of the horror/thriller genre into our film. We used a variety of different horror films with all the conventions of horror films. We enhanced these conventions to make the film more of our own. We used real student characters and a real school to give a more atmospheric feel.

Inspiration films We took screen shots of a variety of different films in which we thought our film had the same genre and conventions. Films we included were: Urban Legend House of Wax Wendy Friday 13 th Prom Night Halloween Scream Texas Chainsaw Massacre Nightmare on Elm Street I know what you did last summer (I am only going to show a few examples due to bad screenshot quality)

Urban Legend In this shot there is a chase scene. This gives the feeling of suspense to the audience because they don’t know if something will happen to the innocent “good” character. We used a chase scene similar to this in our film. It builds suspense for the audience which is suddenly broken with a turn of events.

House of Wax This shot is a point of view shot from the. point of view of the killer. This provides and eerie atmosphere for the audience by showing how the killer is perceiving his actions. In our film we used a point of view shot also from the killer during a chase scene. It creates suspense for the audience by showing the film from a different point of view. By using a point of view shot it helps the audience to interpret the film through both sides of the characters (good and bad) and also to predict the happenings of the film.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre This is the main inspiration for our film, This is the brutish murderer, lots of grabbing, throwing, brute force. We added a smaller killer (seems less assertive) to sort of ‘control’ this killer.
