INFINITIVES IN SPANISH “to verb”

What are infinitives?  Words that are most often used to name actions  Verbs in English have different forms depending on who is doing the action or when the action is occurring:  i.e.  I walk, she walks, they walked, etc.

What is an Infinitive?  The most basic form of a verb is called the infinitive  In English, they are very easy to spot, because they have “to” in front of them:  i.e.  to swim, to read, to write

How to Identify an Infinitive in Spanish  Infinitives in Spanish don’t have a word in front of them  In Spanish, infinitives are only one word, and end in either - ar, - er, or - ir.  escuchar (to listen)  comer(to eat)  escribir (to write)

Parts of an Infinitive in Spanish  An infinitive has TWO parts:  The stem which tells us the meaning of the word  And the ending that is either - ar, - er or - ir and translates to the English word “to” H a b l a r stem ending
