Geothermal Energy By Melissa Cavrell, Melissa Roberts, Cody Arana, Kelsey Moody, and Nick Price

The source of geothermal energy Geothermal energy exists in nature because it was was formed when earth was created from radioactive decay of minerals and also from volcanic eruptions. It is stored inside the earths core and is a renewable energy. There is a layer of magma below the earths surface that continually produces heat the decay of radioactive materials such as uranium. In the 10,000 meters (about 33,000 feet) below Earth's surface there is 50,000 times more energy than all the oil and natural gas resources existence. It is extremely abundant because the Earths core is continuously conducting heat energy.

How we obtain Geothermal energy We can use geothermal energy for anything from heating our home to fueling a power plant which will provide clean power to hundreds of residences. Geothermal energy is obtained by drilling through the earths crust and harnessing the “hydrothermal convection”. There are three different designs for geothermal energy plants. 1. you pull the steam through a turbine and then into a condenser, which condenses the steam into water. 2. very hot water is depressurized into steam which is used to drive the turbine.
