3 Why Make a Table? Before knowing why one would want to make a table, its important to know what a table is. A table is an arrangement of numbers or quantities in rows and columns. The image to the right shows the different sports people play, and how many people play that certain sport. Tables can be used to write certain information in a more organized format. Also, tables allow people to discover relationships and patterns between given data. Tables can be very useful in our daily lives, and can make things very simple.

4 Steps to Making a Table 1.Before making a table, you first want to collect all the data you need for that given table. It’s also important to try to keep the table simple and organized. 2.Next, you want to title your table. It’s important that those looking at your table know what they’re looking at! 3.Then, title each row or column. This depends on how you decide to set up your graph whether you put your titles horizontally or vertically. 4.Finally, you should be able to add in the values you found when you collected data. 5 Rows Vs. Columns It’s important to know the difference between rows and columns when trying to create or read a graph. Rows are arranged horizontally, or from left to right. To visualize a row, think of a row in gardening. It goes lengthwise across the field. Columns are arranged vertically, or from top to bottom. To remember what a column is, think of a column in a newspaper. It goes up and down the page, never found going left to right.
