 Be on time  Be respectful  Be prepared to learn  Be safe

 You will receive 5 points for your participation in class every day. If you come to class on time and prepared, are attentive and try your best, you will receive all 25 points each week. This is 100 points every month, which is 10% of your grade.  Points are deducted as follows:  -1 point: Disruption of class / Off-task behavior  -1 point: Speaking Spanish (intentionally)  -1 point: Missing school supplies  -1 point: Leaving trash behind  -3 points: Leaving class to use the bathroom or find an article you lost or left in another place  -3 points: Tardy (late to class first time)  -5 points: Excessive tardiness (very late to class three or more times) and LUNCH DUTY or DETENTION

 All students are expected to do all work and hand it in on time. Homework is practice! If you don’t practice, you can’t improve in math.  Each day at the beginning of class I will check that you completed the assignment and grade as follows: Completed homework: 5 points Incomplete homework: 1 point No homework: 0 points 1 day late: 1 point 2 or more days late – zero  Assignments not turned in because of an unexcused absence will automatically receive a zero and cannot be recuperated.

 When you have an excused absence, it is YOUR responsibility to get your make-up work.  Check the calendar in the classroom or Ms. Hirmas’ wiki page to see the work you missed and need to makeup. Wikipage: http://matematicas9y10.wikispaces.com/http://matematicas9y10.wikispaces.com/

Watch the calendar ….  GI School policy is that you will have the same number of days to complete any missing work as days you were away. For example, if an assignment is given Monday that is due Wednesday and you are sick Monday and Tuesday, you will have to hand it in on Friday to receive full credit.

Remember RECUPERATION is a PRIVILEDGE – not a right You can recuperate a test if you have taken notes and paid attention in class for all lessons prior to the test. completed and turned in homework assignments for all lessons prior to the test. attended a reinforcement session to correct failed quizzes prior to the test. attended a reinforcement session to review the concepts you missed before recuperation. You lose the privilege to recuperate if you do not turn in your homework before the test or I know that you have copied or cheated on your work.

 You will have ONE Week from the time the test grade is reported to you to recuperate your test.  You will also need to attend at least 1 recuperation session before earning the right to recuperate the test:  Mondays and Thursdays 3:15 – 4:30 p.m.  Grade 10 3:10 – 3:50 p.m. Grade 9 3:50 – 4:30 pm.

Cell phones must be turned off and put away during class time. If I see a cell phone visible, the following consequences will apply: First offense: Cell phone will be taken up and turned in to the principal’s office. The student can pick it up at the end of the day. Second offense: Cell phone will be taken up and turned in to the principal’s office. Your parent must pick up the cell phone from the principal’s office. Third offense: Cell phone will be taken up for several weeks without being returned, with recommendations to parents.

Make Ms. Hirmas happy with your homework by following these steps:  1. Put your name, date, assignment name, and class (9A or 9B etc.) at the top of the page.  2. Show all work for each problem. No work = no credit!  3. Put a box around your final answer.  4. Skip a line between each set of problems.  5. Start at the top and work down.

 Your final grade will be calculated using the following weights: Citizenship/ Participation 10 % Homework 20 % Tests 45% Quizzes/Projects 25%

If you turn in work that appears to be copied, I will ask you questions orally to determine whether you know the information. If you cannot demonstrate that you know the material, you will receive a zero. If I discover another student’s assignment in your possession (including electronic copies), then this will be considered cheating. You and the other student will both receive zeros. If your binder is lost or stolen and you think that your work may be being used by others, report the loss immediately to Mr. Loaiza.
