2 Outline What are SATs? An outline of the tasks and tests Teacher assessment Assessment without levels The results What you can do to help Individual children will not be discussed.

3 What are SATs? Children are assessed in; Reading Writing Mathematics. In KS1 the emphasis is on teacher assessment, the tests support this judgement.

4 Tasks and Tests Assessment Area ReadingReading paper one paper that has the questions next to short texts (x3) One longer text and separate paper SPAGSpelling,punctuation,grammer Writing Teacher assessment 6 pieces of writing Short task [All] Approx 30 mins MathsTest paper Maths Arithmetic Chn can have help reading questions.

5 This years SATS are a new format. The government has only just released the assessment material. Here at Ambler we are working hard to ensure that we are doing everything that is required. That is why we’ve reduced class size !

6 Assessment without levels After the SATS all year 2 pupils will be given one of the following grades in reading, writing, maths and SPAG ‘Working towards the expected standard ‘ Working AT the expected standard ( where we want the majority to be) Working at greater depth within the expected standard

7 The Results Results are reported to the LEA. An overall result will be made available with yearly reports.

8 What can you do to help? Read together every day and ask questions about the story Use number problems in every day life, at the shops, on the bus, telling the time etc. Continue to work on targets discussed at parents evening. Work on the SPAG booklet that will be given out just after half term

9 What can you do to help? Explicit revision is not necessary [teacher assessment]. Children already familiar with question format through subtle teaching. Will be sending home a practice reading paper for you to work through together with your child as May homework. Keep reading with your child, to your child and listening to them. In Maths make sure your child knows 2,3,5,10 times tables. We have supplied a sheet withy some examples of the topics they will cover in maths.
