3. What are SATs? Children are assessed in; Reading Writing Mathematics. In KS1 the emphasis is on teacher assessment, the tests support this judgement.

5. Teacher Assessment If children do not perform to best ability in test teacher assessment can be used. Children will not know that they are taking SATs, it will be done as subtly as possible.

6. Levels W12c2b2a3 W = Working towards level 1 Each level has subdivisions. C – just entering the level, not yet secure B – secure in the level A – secure and moving towards next level National Average for end of Year 2 > 2B Level 1 and 3 subdivisions not shown on SATs results.

7. The Results Results are reported to the LEA. An overall result will be made available with yearly reports.

8. What can you do to help? Read together every day and ask questions about the story [see reading packs, old SATs papers] Use number problems in every day life, at the shops, on the bus, telling the time etc. [see Maths leaflet, old SATs papers] Write with your child for a purpose eg – shopping list, letter to the relatives, invitation to the friends; practice spelling and handwriting Continue to work on targets discussed at parents evening.

9. What can you do to help? Explicit revision is not necessary [teacher assessment]. Children already familiar with question format through subtle teaching. Will be sending home a practice reading paper for you to work through together with your child as Easter homework.
