Level Four 408.02bOHP #2a 4 Establish the purpose of the session in advance; 4 Prepare the plan beforehand; 4 Counsel in private space, free of disruptions; 4 Respect the interests and individuality of each cadet; 4 Help the cadet feel at ease by establishing trust. 4 Keep the conversation going, but do not dominate it. 4 Avoid questions that may be answered by a yes or no. 4 Avoid “why” questions as they force a defensive stand;

Level Four 408.02bOHP #2b 4 Keep your views and opinions to yourself; 4 Refrain from giving unsolicited advice; 4 Refrain from passing value judgements; 4 Avoid exerting excessive control; 4 Do not become sidetracked for lengthy periods; 4 End the session positively; 4 Record information, impressions and interpretations; 4 Keep the matter confident; and 4 Follow up unobtrusively.
