Incentives and Funding Options for PBIS Presented by: David Backert World Cultures teacher PBIS Chairman This August will be my 5 th year at General John Stricker Middle School

Objectives of this Presentation At the end of this presentation we will be able to… 1.) share ideas about free and low cost incentives. 2.) learn about weekly, monthly, and quarterly reinforcements. 3.) apply multiple funding options.

Free and Low Cost Ideas What are our students most interested in? When do we as classroom teachers most need help gaining the students’ attention? If my school has a limited budget, how can PBIS help assist us?

Free and Low Cost Ideas Short term Incentives: Allowing students to use the computer during power point presentations, write on the board, sit in a “special chair”, create their own seating charts, game day during lunch, etc

Free and Low Cost Ideas Long Term Incentives Special Days: Sports day, movie day, hat day, PJ pants day, bottled water day, etc Incentive Days: Professional dress day (great during American Education week), dress like your favorite teacher, etc.

Weekly, Monthly, Quarterly Reinforcements Weekly: Student of the week, special days, PBIS Store open Monthly: Raffles per grade level, special days, etc. Quarterly: School wide raffle, special days, etc.

Prizes In addition to the previously discussed “in school” options, students enjoy: Mp3 players, skate land tickets, stuffed animals, Seasonal gifts, stuffed animals, sports equipments, movie tickets, bowling alley tickets, Tv’s, radios, local event tickets, etc

How can we afford these items? Donations: Local businesses, staff members, students, PTSA, Discretionary funds, etc. How to organize for this funding: My suggestion is to divided your school’s PBIS Committee into sub- committees, 1 of which being the Prize and Donation Sub-Committee
