3 Reasons for the Four Modernizations
The Four Modernization were adopted as a means of rejuvenating China’s economy In December 1978,Deng Xiaoping announced the official launch of the Four modernizations formally marking the beginning of the reform The Four Modernization were designed to make China a great economic power by the early 21st century.

4 Agriculture Primarily producing rice, wheat, potatoes, tomatoes, sorghum, peanuts, tea, millet, barley. cotton, oilseed, pork, and fish

5 The production of grain had risen 300 million tons - 1983
From 200 million 1976 The production of grain would reach 1.2 billion tons

6 Industry Including mining, manufacturing, construction, and power

7 Under Deng, manufacturing industries had to resort to ascertaining economic realities such as demand and the prices they should set for their goods.

8 National Defense China had largest army in world however lacked in military technology Science and military modernization had a direct link The Party realized that the army needed to be updated in order to be a global contender

9 Centres of research being built or improved made it possible to develop new weapons
10% of GNP was spent on improvements and purchasing of new technology upgrading the quality of PLA recruits and officer candidates, improving conditions of service, changing promotion practices to stress professional competence, and providing new uniforms and insignia.

Cultural Revolution left China without basic technological expertise devastating effect on education decades-long isolation of Chinese scientists from the western international community, outmoded universities, and an overall lack of access to advanced scientific equipment

Government placed emphasis through funding, reform, and societal status on science and technology Promoted series of regulations and policies opened up the technological market, strengthened the protection of intellectual property rights, improved the scientific award system, established the experimental facility supporting system
