Music Video Presentation By Mason and Georgia

Band Research Fox Chapel Northampton, UK Fox Chapel are a four piece indie band from Northampton. Kailan Price (vocals & guitar), Sam Collier (guitar), Joel Daw (drums) and Jonny Longland (bass) formed as college students in January 2014. Since then they have released their debut single 'No Healing' which will be part of a forthcoming 6 track EP.

Target Audience The target audience for Fox Chapel would be the age range of 16-25. This would include the majority of people in that age range. There is no real difference when discussing gender either. Most of these people would be students or young working adults. The Psychographic for these people would be that they are fun loving, most likely to be Students who enjoy music a lot. Most of which have similar interests and tastes. For example, most would own an Iphone or Ipod and wear clothing such Skinny Jeans, Doc Martens etc.

Codes and Conventions Indie music videos are normally in a quite low budget place with a main setting of the video in a studio, cities, parks and tunnels. These places create mystery and have easy access. Its common for indie rock bands to include a live performance in their video. However, we changed these codes and conventions by giving the video a narrative. By this I mean that we will be shooting a low budget video in a quiet and scenic place. This is because we will be able to focus more of our video on our band and we will have the ability to get good shots from both the studio and the scenic place.

Brand Knowledge Old Pine is set in a forest and has a range of colours that are used in the video. Our colour palette contained a lot of bright colours and sun ray flashes shown through in the video. There wasn’t really a costume or make up aspect to the video but it seemed to work ok and it was quite simplistic. There was an intertextuality within the lyrics and the video as well. Usually with acoustic artists they work in studio’s or forests and in this video it was a mix of rural areas, sea, sun and countryside. It wasn’t outstandingly unique but had a certain flare to it. There wasn’t any choreography in the video, however it’s not uncommon to find this in Acoustic Artist’s videos. Tom Odell’s Another Love starts and ends in the same place, an old fashioned worn out style apartment or house. It looks like it has a natural style lighting but could have artificial and doesn’t have a wide range to colours on the colour palette. It is quite bland and dull and uses a lot of black. However, the lighting changes at the end of the video to two different colours and the first is quite bright, however the second is quite dark and depressing. This is appealing to the audience because it shows that Tom Odell is not trying to impress and that he is quite laid back and professional in his music rather than over dramatizing everything. Bastille’s Overjoyed starts in a town or city setting but as the video progresses it changes to woods or a forest setting. The colour palette is quite dark and dull but has quite a lot of blurred bright lighting. Also, the brightness and colours show through when in the forest. There is a costume aspect in this video as the main ‘character’ is in a pyjama style costume half way through the video and as it goes on there are flashes of her wearing other casual style clothing. It is quite a unique video that asks a few questions, what is in the book? why is she there in the middle of the night? It has it’s own style of video which is unique.
