1. WELCOME TO PHYSICAL SCIENCE

2. THIS YEAR, 2014-2015 We will be exploring the fundamental concepts of physics, chemistry and earth science. We will discuss and practice key skills to be successful in high school and in life.

3. THE STORY OF LIFE Life has magic and power in it. The story of your life can change with the next turn of the page. More than any external obstacle, it is your limited self concept and self imposed internal obstacles that hold your “life’s possibilities” hostage. Once you understand this, you can choose to REDEFINE YOURSELF by making better choices, getting a grip on your reality, and finding a different path. Then you can choose to write your own story and turn drama and tragedy into a joyous adventure.

4. EXTERNAL OBSTACLES External obstacles are barriers exist outside of us. They can include: Broken families (divorce, drugs, etc) Homelessness Bullying Gangs Drugs Lack of financial support

5. INTERNAL OBSTACLES Internal obstacles are barriers that exist within ourselves They can include: Anxiety Fear Low self esteem Anger Sadness/depression Shame Low motivation

6. You have the opportunity to change, or redefine yourself, by making better choices. You can write your own story….DO NOT LET OTHERS WRITE IT FOR YOU. On the top of the letter, please write what you want to change, for the better, about yourself.

7. Write a letter to the future YOU and include the following: 1)What your life is like now (family, school, friends, relationships) 2)What you want your life to be like 3 months from now. Please seal the envelope and put it in the correct bin. No one will read this but you.

8. 5 PRINCIPLES OF LEARNING 1.ALL human beings are capable of growing and changing their behavior. 2.YOU are the only one who can produce growth or change in attitudes and behavior within yourself. 3.YOU have the POWER to produce any growth or change in behavior in yourself that you want. 4.No one can make YOU change behavior by threat or emotional appeal. 5.People in your life can help and support the growth or behavior changes you choose through their relationship with you. These people can be teachers, counselors, friends, or relatives. YOUR choice is whether you accept or reject this help.
