Bones of the Upper Extremity

Scapula Also known as your shoulder blade Triangle shaped There is a notch next to the coracoid process where 3 muscles attach and act as a cord that runs through there

Scapula The part that attaches to the humerus is called the glenoid process The part that sticks out in your back is the spine of your scapula The scapula attaches to the head of the humerus Deltoid and trapezius muscles attach here

Clavicle Also known as the collar bone The clavicle sits on the top of your scapula Attaches at the acromion process Protects the shoulder joint

Clavicle Because of its location and the way it sits on the shoulder, the bone is weak and this is why many dislocations and separations occur Less movable joint than the scapula

Separated Shoulder

Dislocated shoulder

Humerus Attaches to your scapula and to the radius and ulna Radial groove on posterior side makes up your elbow Technical name for elbow is olecranon

Humerus Greater Tubercule – where muscle inserts into somewhat rougher surface of the biceps and triceps (lateral) Lesser Tubercule – insert of muscles from the scapula (medial) Medial and lateral epicondyles are the pointy parts of your elbow

Radius & Ulna End of radius is on your thumb side End of ulna is on your little finger side Head of the ulna is the bony part of the elbow

Radius & Ulna Attachment to the wrist is called the Styloid process – carpal joint and brachioradiolis muscle Trochler notch is where the bottom of the humerus sets in

The Hand

The Wrist Carpals (Wrist)  Move the metacarpals Pinky Finger – Humate Ring Finger – Humate Middle Finger – Capitate Pointer Finger – Trapezoid Thumb – Trapezium

The Fingers Metacarpals  5 Metacarpals Phalanges  14 Phalanges Proximal Middle Distal
