2 FAMILY SYSTEMS A sensible and well-balanced family system is the very foundation of a happy life  The traditional family system in South Asia is the joint family system. The greater proportion of the population in Pakistan (66%) lives in rural areas where the main occupation is agriculture the model of 'joint family' has potential benefits that can lead to secure, healthy, stress free and affluent individuals.

3 JOINT FAMILY SYSTEM The 'joint family system' is one such thing that has the potential to ensure sustainability of life and natural resources on this planet  In this system, all members of a clan: father, son, brother, sister, uncle, nephew, and others live together In a joint family system, there exists a strong differentiation of authority across generations, and a relatively passive role of females.

4 ISLAMIC VIEW ABOUT JOINT FAMILY SYSTEM
Islam endorses the set-up of the nuclear (or separate) family system. It has strongly emphasized on the issue of silatu 'r-rahm (keeping the bond of relationship intact) thus promoting the virtue of helping the relatives.  In Islam, a family can take the following two shapes:      A couple and their children.     A couple, their parents and their children

5 CONTD… Both aspects of this Islamic view are clear from verse 24:61.
There is no blame upon...you if you eat (without permission) in your own houses, the houses of your fathers, the houses of your mothers, the houses of your brothers, the houses of your sisters, the houses of your paternal uncles, the houses of your paternal aunts, the houses of your maternal uncles, the houses of your maternal aunts, the house which is in your trust, and the house of your friend.

6 BENEFITS OF JOINT FAMILY SYSTEM
A joint family is much better able to provide support to the elderly especially physical, social and emotional support. A study done showed that living in a joint family system was associated with a favorable outcome in elderly suffering from depression. In a joint family system, the elderly have more interactions with people at home One of the main advantages of a joint family system is the availability of a large workforce for occupations which demand one

7 FAMILY SYSTEM IN PAKISTAN
In Pakistan, the joint family system is quite usually found. Joint family usually comprises father, mother, children, grand father and mother, and they live together with their people in the same family unit. People in Pakistan are greatly trilingual and most of the people living here are Muslims. They give much respect to their customs and traditions and they closely follow the worth-taking family values.

8 CAUSES OF DISINTEGRATION OF JOINT FAMILY SYSTEM IN PAKISTAN
Some of the main causes of joint family system in Pakistan are: The generation that broke out of the old joint family system did so when individualistic thinking began to gain predominance in the society In urban areas, dissolution of the joint family system is likely due to the problems of housing (large families being unable to live under one roof) and occupational alternatives which result in the younger generation undergoing separation of economic production. Nucleation leads to a decrease in co-residence of the elderly with adult children and therefore a decrease in care and support of the elderly.

Our parents sacrificed everything for our happiness and future. So it is improper to act as if they deserve no respect and love. Every person who puts a parent in a home for the aged should ask: How will I feel if my children did the same to me when I am old?
