Be respectful! 2. Be responsible! 3. Be safe! 4. Be collaborative! 5. Be successful! Class Expectations Enter the classroom quietly and be in seat and ready to work when tardy bell rings. Begin immediately on the assigned “Do Now.” Put proper heading on all papers. Do not use electronic devices in class without teacher permission. Raise your hand to speak or leave your seat. Bring all of your supplies to class daily, including your Tier 1 Laptop. Laptop devices should be fully charged daily! Also, it is imperative that you handle your device with care! Complete all of your work and turn it in on time. Follow all Onslow County and Trexler Middle rules and policies within the classroom. ellice.oeser@onslow.k12.nc.us910-324-4414 1 Welcome to 7th Language Arts! Our focus this school year will be learning and developing our skills as critical thinkers, readers, writers, speakers, and listeners. The development and mastery of these important literary skills not only is important to achieving success in the Language Arts classroom, it is a critical component of achieving success in other school subjects, building strong relationships with others, and attaining a flourishing career as an adult. Basically, the quality of life you experience now through adulthood will depend a lot on how well you read, write, and communicate with others. Work is expected to be turned in on time! If a student is absent on the date work is due, the assignment is due the first day the student returns to school. Edmodo is our class website. This site will house the weekly assignments, due dates, copies of class handouts, important announcements, and more. Please bookmark the following site and check it daily: Website: https://onslow.edmodo.com/?go2url=%2Fhome Parent codes are located on the student’s home log in page. *The agenda will be posted daily in class, as well as homework and should be recorded in the student planner EVERYDAY! Course Description What happens if I turn in an assignment late? Where do I go to find agendas and assignments?

2 Class progress reports will be sent home every three weeks in paper form. Progress reports and report cards should be signed and returned. Parents and students are also strongly encouraged to check PowerSchool on a weekly basis to view the most current grades for EVERY class. A = 90-100 B = 80-90 C = 70-80 D = 60-70 Grade Scale Grade Breakdown Tests, Quizzes, and Projects = 40% Classwork = 40% Homework = 20% Supplies How will I check my grade in class? What do I do if I am absent? Always check the class Edmodo site for agendas, handouts, and assignment due dates. A student has two extra days to turn in any work assigned on a day a student was absent. If a quiz was administered on a day a student was absent, the quiz must be made up on the first day the student returns. If previously assigned work was due on the day of the absence, the work is due on the first day the student returns. Students are responsible for seeing the teacher if a question arises or if they need help in determining what needs to be completed as a result of the absence. Do I have to read outside of class? All students will be expected to read independently on a daily basis. Students must bring a reading book to school so they are prepared for independent reading in Language Arts. *A book project will be due every quarter and must be completed on an independently read book the student finished that quarter.* What types of writing will I do this year? ellice.oeser@onslow.k12.nc.us910-324-4414 2 Mrs. Oeser’s Class Trexler Middle 2015-2016 School Year Students will be writing a personal narrative essay, an informative/explanatory essay to examine a topic and convey ideas, an argumentative essay to support claims with clear reasons and relevant evidence, and a short research paper and project. In addition, students will be completing a variety of activities which will require writing. No text language should be utilized in any form when writing in class, and all assignments should be edited appropriately before submitting. Not only should all essays be edited appropriately, but all responses, including short answer questions! Sentences should always begin with a capital letter and end with a punctuation mark! Remember, in order to be a successful writer, you need to be able to effectively proofread and edit your own work! General Supplies for all Classes!
