4 1. SCHOOL CLIMATE Students who find strong social and emotional support in their schools are much more likely to be successful academically. (Harvard Educational Review, 2006)

5 Treat all kids as if they were your own!

6 Attitude of 212! Inspired by a speech from Mac Anderson. Give that extra effort in all that you do.

7 2. SET HIGH EXPECTATIONS “One consistent finding of academic research is that high expectations are the most reliable driver of high student achievement, even in students who do not have a history of successful achievement.” Doug Lemov, Teach Like a Champion

8 We told the class of 2010 we expected them to produce high math results in class and on the KCCT. We expected it daily.

9 3. SCHOOL WIDE EFFORT All 1 st block classes across the school gave a daily math problem of the day. All classes, no exceptions. Math open response questions weekly in all math classes.

10 4. USED DATA FOR SMALL GROUP TUTORING Used MAPS data to identify students with specific math weaknesses. Small group tutoring during planning periods.

11 ROAD TO THE FUTURE: COLLEGE AND CAREER READINESS 1.Keep climate at 212, keep high expectations. 2.Lengthen school day by 8 minutes, set up twice weekly academic prep class.

12 ACADEMIC PREP Underclassmen are taught ACT/PLAN prep. class in each academic area.

13 ACADEMIC PREP Seniors receive classes on interview skills, personal finance, college applications, interpersonal communication, etc.
