3 Rising tensions  Between tejanos (texans of Mexican descent) and settlers  American complaints: 1. Documents in Spanish 2. Slavery outlawed  Tejano complaint: 1. Settlers not becoming Mexican citizens

4 The Alamo – Texans rebel  Texans took over a mission, the Alamo.  Mexicans demanded Texans surrender.  Texans outnumbered. ALL dead.  Made Texans mad, call for revenge.

5 Texans win independence  “remember the Alamo” – Texans surprise attack on Mexican camp.  Mexicans retreat out of Texas.  Lone Star Republic  Annex? Slavery issue – North = No South = yes  After 10 years, Polk annexed Texas
