3 Agenda Top 5 CEO business objectives
Oracle Exalogic – A brief description Oracle Exalogic’s sweet spots Customer success stories Conclusion I assume most of you are familiar with the value proposition to run Oracle horizontal business applications on Exalogic such as Peoplesoft, Siebel, etc. and we have been seeing good traction on these. In addition to these sales plays which are common across most of the industries, there are some strong sales plays very specific to the Financial services Industry and the purpose of today’s webcast is to give you the keys to successfully position Exalogic for the core applications used by the Financial services companies and open new opportunities in your accounts. Where as performance is often the first benefit that we describe when we talk about Exalogic, we need to realize that performance is not always the top priority for our customers. So, in order to properly position our offering we will start with a brief overview of the FSI major trends and their corresponding challenges for their IT department. Based on this, we will look into how Exalogic can help our friends in the these IT departments to answer these challenges and then we will close with the level of applicability for FSI specific applications and go over a few use cases. Before we start the presentation, I wanted to let you know that this presentation is a subset of a larger customer facing presentation that I used in CVC or specific customer engagement and that unless specified the information presented today can be shared with customers.

6 Oracle Exalogic: Brief Introduction

7 Oracle Identity Management
Part I: The “Red” Stack Pluggable & Modular software architecture Software Complete Integrated Solution Proven Oracle Identity Management OBIEE Oracle Middleware OTD SOA OEP Oracle Database WebLogic Tuxedo Coherence OGG ODI Java SE advanced Until a couple of years ago, Oracle’s answer to such challenges was based on its Software portfolio composed of pluggable Middleware and Data Management component enabling a Modular architecture. This portfolio (a.k.a. The Red Stack) has multiple attractive characteristics: 1) It is Complete, 2) Though pluggable and modular, It is an Integrated solution, and 3) it is Proven Spending a lot of efforts and resources in the improvement of its portfolio, Oracle has been know to take its software very seriously …

8 “People who are really serious about software should make their own hardware.”
Alan Kay Alan Kay, the very famous Computer Scientist (one of the fathers of the Object Oriented programming and the Graphical User Interface), said a long time ago: “People who are really serious about software should make their own hardware.” … and 2 years ago with the acquisition of Sun Microsystems, Oracle was finally in a position to embrace this great visionary statement … but Oracle thanks to its unique position did a lot more than just adding hardware to its portfolio, Oracle created the Engineered Systems which building hardware with the software in mind and re-engineering software to make the most of this hardware platform.

17 Oracle Exalogic: Sweet Spots

18 Exalogic Supports All Use Cases
Traditional Silos Static Consolidation Fairly Static Private Cloud Very Dynamic Physical Applicable for most customer requirements Virtualization maturity of an organization – Readiness from people, process & technology perspective Consolidating large applications – Applications having large processor and memory requirement Risk Averse – Simplify the stack Choice of Linux or Solaris operating system Application/Server Consolidation Multiple apps in a system with secure app isolation (multi-tenancy) Consolidate multiple physical servers on a single Exalogic system Subcapacity Licensing Apps with no need for complete node capacity are able to reduce licensing and support costs Deployment Simplification Use of OVM custom templates for production deployment simplification and improved consistency Private Cloud Capabilities Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) Multiple Accounts, Users and Apps, concurrent administration Rapid provisioning of virtual machines, networks and storage through Self-service Path to Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) Application Platform templates for repeated use in Dev-Test-Prod lifecycle In this slide we position the use cases for the current Exalogic release (NAVSTAR) to position customer expectations and maximize success on Q4FY13 opportunities . These use cases are supported by product management and should get you the necessary approvals easily. PHYSICAL 1. Physical should be the default use case. We have over 40 customers who are live on physical Exalogic across both Linux and Solaris. With Navstar, we now support the full version (Solaris 11.1, no longer Solaris Express), a proven, rock-solid OS that supports mission critical workloads. This should increase the opportunities for further penetration of our existing SPARC/Solaris customers. VIRTUAL It is important to know that the key characteristics of this Consolidation / fairly static scenario are: a. The allocation for resources happens no very frequent b. The lifecycle activity is carefully managed by a central team. The VM sizing, resource requirement is provided to the IT team by the user and the IT team provisions a VM. The application is then deployed by the user and is now ready to use. The key point to stress here is that the lifecycle aspects are “carefully managed”. The use cases of NAVSTAR release supporting virtualization are: 2. Application/Server Consolidation Represent the majority of the use case for server virtualization. When customers are considering virtualization, a majority of the time they are looking to get better utilization of their servers, and to lower the TCO in terms of footprint, manageability, power etc. In this use-case, they plan to take large applications running on their isolated set of commodity systems and move them to a virtual infrastructure where they can now pack more apps on the virtualized servers with guaranteed application isolation to get better density. In such a use-case once a VM is created and an app deployed, it is left to run. The environment is mostly static. We can support a deployment with those characteristic. In this case, the virtualization stack is used to take advantage of the sub-capacity deployment capability. 3. Subcapacity Licensing Sometimes applications will not need the full capacity of the EL nodes. Work with you local Sales Consultant to identify those cases and perform a detailed sizing analysis and not over-provision 4. Deployment Simplification For a consistent setup and ease of deployment OVM Templates can be used. The OVM Templates for Exalogic help jumpstart Installation, Configuration, Tuning, Patching and Scaling for Oracle Applications on Exalogic. ECHO is targeted for release in FY14H1 and it will bring the stability that we need to create the foundation of a private cloud. The private cloud use case has completely different characteristic compared to server consolidation. In a cloud setup, you are interfacing with the system through a self-service portal. There are multiple accounts, multiple users involved in a cloud model. The user requests VM or virtual resources through the cloud user self-service and the resource is provisioning automatically behind the scenes. There could be multiple users interfacing with the system and resources provisioned at any time. The system is much more dynamic. We have not optimized the system or designed the system for such a use case at this time. These kind of use –case should be deferred to the next “Echo” release. 5. ECHO provides a more dynamic platform enableing more use cases for templates. Early adopters might also want to testdrive OVAB.
