3 What is Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is an anxiety disorder that some people get after seeing or living through a dangerous or traumatic event.

Nightmares Avoid referring about incident Outburst of anger or violence Flashbacks Avoiding social gatherings Guilt/ Shame/ Worry

Encourage support systems Learning how to deal with anger Be a good listener

Explain that its not their fault Encourage activities Support systems

7 How can I prepare myself?
Remind yourself that nobody has all the answers. Take care of your physical and mental health. Support Networks

Vision: To foster the most successful, well-adjusted generation of wounded service members in our nation’s history. Purpose: To raise awareness and enlist the public's aid for the needs of injured service members. To provide unique, direct programs and services to meet the needs of injured service members. Providing programs that will benefit soldiers, family members and children.

11 Restore Warriors 600,000 men and women soldiers will have a mental disorder coming back from Iraq and Afghanistan. Works with families of soldiers dealing with PTSD. Offering tools, strategies and learning from others dealing with PTSD>

12 Establish Community Connections for Military families and provide support for children.
Connecting youth who are experiencing the same situation. Provide programs for children. Provide social and educational programs for children and family members of deployed soldiers.

13 Dual Diagnosis Veterans experiencing PTSD can also experience substance abuse. Other conditions that may occur with PTSD are: Depression Anxiety Sleep disorders PTSD Dual Diagnosis Centers—Marshalltown, Iowa

Raise PTSD Awareness PTSD Awareness Month: June 2013 June 27th was named PTSD Awareness Day by Congress What YOU can do: Set up a table with PTSD information Get local media to air a PTSD public service announcement Include a story about PTSD in your company or group newsletter Share our social media posts Gather a group to learn about PTSD using one of our online modules Share your own ideas on our PTSD Information Facebook page!
