2 Define “infinitive.” In your own words, what is an infinitive?

3 An infinitive is a verb with the word, “to.”

4 Examples of Infinitives She went outside to pull weeds. To go on a Disney Cruise is my dream. He went to shop for a new car.

5 How to Form an Infinitive 1. Choose a verb, such as, “eat.” 2. Put “to” in front of the word. For example: to eat. Pretty easy, huh?

6 Functions of Infinitives To wait seemed foolish when decisive action was required. (subject) Everyone wanted to go. (direct object) His ambition is to fly. (subject complement) (Those were all nouns.) He lacked the strength to resist. (adjective) We must study to learn. (adverb) (This is confusing. You do not need to memorize this information.)
