4. What Can We Do? If you find anything harmful to fish like oil or sewage leaking into a stream, pond, or lake, contact your local department of environmental protection. These trees will help protect the water quality by letting less soil wash into the stream. Pick up any litter that you see near waterways and beaches. Get you friends to help, too. Don’t use too many balloons for celebration, especially non-latex ones that don’t break down. These balloons end up In the water where animals might eat them and get tangled in them. When you go fishing, never throw used fishing lines in the water. The animals might get their mouths wrapped in it and die from starvation.
