7. I NTERESTING I NFORMATION ABOUT THE S PUTNIK Sputnik 1, launched the first man-made object to orbit the Earth. Sputnik 2 carried the first living passenger into orbit, a dog named Laika. Sputnik 5 launched with the dogs Belka and Strelka, 40 mice, 2 rats, and several plants on board.
