3 Schooling Attended University of Virginia for one semester, but left because of no money Enlisted in the Army, but was kicked out of West Point

4 Works Poe’s first poems were Tamerlane and Other Poems Poe then switched to focusing on prose and spent years working for literary journals and became known for his own style of literary criticism. Due to his works, Poe moved to several cities In 1845 Poe published an instant hit with “The Raven”

5 Odds & Ends Poe married Virginia Clemm, who was his 13- year-old cousin She died two years after their marriage from tuberculosis Poe started planning to create his own journal The Penn, but he died before it could be produced. Poe’s cause of death is unknown. Edgar Allan Poe influenced American literature as well as around the world
