2  Edgar Allen Poe was an American writer, a poet, editor and a literary critic.  He was best known for his stories about mystery and macabre.  He is also known from inventing the genre of detective-fiction.  He also wrote short stories about horror fiction, gothic romance, crime fiction, comedy, and satire.

3 Poe’s Life Poe’s Life  Born in Boston, Massachusetts January 19, 1809.  Edgar Allen Poe was a orphan when he was young, shortly after his mother died.  His work of journals and periodicals forced him to move between several cities, including cities like Baltimore, Philadelphia, and New York City.

4 Continued Continued  He married his 13-year-old cousin, Virginia Clemm.  Later his wife died of tuberculosis, almost two years after the publication of “The Raven.”  On October 7, 1849 at the young age of 40, Poe died.  Poe’s death is unknown.
