4 Rules of Stairs The slope of stairs should be between 30° - 35° ( S = 30° - 35°) The sum of two risers and one tread should equal 25” (2R + T = 25) The product of the riser height multiplied by the tread width should equal approximately 75” (R x T = 75) The sum of one riser plus one tread should equal 17” – 18” (R + T = 17-18)
