Welcome to the Parent Meeting! Coach Lauren and Coach B

In this meeting, we will cover: Eligibility Tryout expectations Team structure Communication Uniforms Expectations Camp Cost of participation Fundraising expectations

Eligibility Any student, male or female, in rising grades 6-9 may try out. Students must currently have a 2.0 GPA. This may be higher once the season starts (waiting on board approval). Clinics and tryouts are mandatory (please see a coach if there is a scheduling conflict).

Tryouts Tryouts will be held the week of Monday, May 11, through Thursday, May 14. Cheerleaders who wish to participate in basketball cheer only will need to be picked up at 5:00PM. Cheerleaders wishing to tryout for a spot on the competition squad will need to stay until 5:30PM. Tryouts will be held here at CCA-CFA in the auditorium and front lobby. Please plan to pick up outside of the front lobby.

Tryouts Clinics are designed to teach each candidate one cheer, one chant, and jumps. Cheerleaders trying out for competition will also be required to learn a dance. Tumbling is optional, but it must be done without a spotter. Mats will be used. Clinics and tryouts are closed to the public. Parents may wait in the lobby, but are not allowed in the judging room.

Tryouts All cheerleaders who attend clinics and tryouts will be accepted onto the basketball squad. The tryout results will determine squad placement.

Items to turn in on the first day of tryouts Parent permission/pledge form (see packet) Athletic Contract (see packet) Failure to turn these in will result in ineligibility.

Communication Please contact a coach if you have any questions or concerns. After that, you would contact Coach Halkyer. Schedules of practices, games, and other events are sent weekly during the school year. Over the summer, you will receive a few email reminders. Email is our primary method of communication, so please make sure you check this frequently. 9 Dress Code Please see your packet for what needs to be worn to tryouts. These requirements are to ensure safety, comfort, and optimal performance.

Competition vs Basketball All cheerleaders who attend clinics and tryouts will automatically be placed on a basketball squad. The coaches will determine who will be placed on the Middle School Squad and the Junior Varsity Squad based on performance. The commitment level for Basketball Squad is the Winter season and summer camp. Cheerleaders who wish to participate in the Competition Squad will tryout for placement. The coaches will determine who will be on the Competition Squad. As we will compete in the same division, there will only be one Competition Squad. The commitment level for Competition Squad is the Fall and Spring seasons, as well as summer camp. Cheerleaders who wish to participate in BOTH squads will be making a YEAR-LONG commitment. Both coaches will coach the Competition Squad.

Middle School vs Junior Varsity There will be two Basketball Squads: Middle School (MS) and Junior Varsity (JV). MS will be coached by Coach B and JV will be coached by Coach Lauren. We will fill in for each other in case of illness or emergency. Placement on the squads will be determined by the following: choice on commitment form (see packet), scores on judging forms, and character shown during tryout week.

After tryouts and before camp… ALL athletes are REQUIRED to have an annual sports physical. Please see Coach Halkyer if you have any questions about your physical.

Uniforms Cheer uniforms will be purchased by the parents and must be ordered through the coaches. Order forms and money for uniforms, shoes, camp-wear, etc. will be due by no later than Friday, June 5 th at 12:00PM. Not turning in order forms and money on time will result in dismissal from the squad. Each piece of the uniform is required. Please see the order forms that are included in your packet. These order forms are for uniform, poms, shoes, camp wear, warm-ups, and an optional cheer bag.

Cheer Bag - Optional In order to receive embroidery, there must be a minimum of 6 orders. For this reason, we ask that you do not order embroidery through us. You may take your bag to a shop, if you wish.

Camp We will be attending camp July 30-August 1. It is a two- night camp at Appalachian State University in Boone, NC. The cost will be at least $315 per cheerleader. There is a cost for coaches, which will be evenly distributed amongst the squad. We will let you know the final cost after tryouts so that you can plan. Camp money will be due at the same time as uniform money (June 5 th at noon). Camp is required for all cheerleaders. Failure to attend may result in dismissal from the squad.

Fundraising Requirements We will participate in at least 3 fundraisers this year. Money raised goes to help pay our share of the facility fee. Any extra money earned goes back to the squad for our use. We understand that cheer is an expensive sport. The more participation we have in fundraisers, the less money you will need to pay. We base allocation of funds on participation in order to make it fair.

Other Information/Application Please carefully read the packet. Please pay special attention to discipline, commitment, late pickups, and conduct expectations. Feel free to ask any questions.
