Tuesday 10.16 Expectations: - Where do bags/jackets go in the classroom? - How do we need to sit? - What do we need? - Vocab HW sheet - Scissors/glue/Pencil - Great attitude!!! AGENDA – Review Expectations – Notebook Setup – Classification of Matter (8.P.1.1)

Behavior Expectations… No yelling across the room No out of seat No talking while I am talking No bullying or playing YES! On task YES! Following directions YES! Engaged in the lesson YES! Respecting each other YES! Appropriate Volume POSITIVE CLASSROOM

 In your NEW Notebook: – Number the first blank page #1, and the back of that page #2. – Continue numbering to at least #20 (We will fill up almost 20 pages this week!) – This first page is your “About Me” Page. You may start working on it at this time. You will write about yourself and decorate it for homework, tonight.

Left/Right Guidelines NB-5 Divide this page into 2 columns Label them LEFT and RIGHT As we explore the concept, write details about what types of items will go on each side of our interactive notebook.

The Left SIDE “LOVES” student work. This is the side that you can use to show me your creativity. This is the “output” or product side. The Right side is “RESTRICTED” and contains only information given by Ms. Hartberger. Nothing else should be placed on the RIGHT SIDE!! The notebook is divided into TWO sections.

LEFT side “loves ” STUDENT work = OUTPUT RIGHT side is “restricted” to TEACHER INPUT WARMUP #1 Fill in the missing word. Decomposer Producer Consumer Plants are ____. Lions, tigers, and bears are ____. Worms and mushrooms are____

The LEFT SIDE belongs to you. It contains your warm-up (QUESTION MARK) and the day’s activity (LIGHTBULB). On this page you may include diagrams, cartoons, drawings, poems, foldables, etc. Let your CREATIVITY go wild! Even PAGES = 2, 4, 6, 8…YOU GOT IT..

The DAY’S ACTIVITY is placed on the LEFT side of the notebook. INCLUDES:  WARM-UP  DAY’S ACTIVITY WARMUP #1 Fill in the missing word. Decomposers Producers Consumers Plants are _________. Lions, tigers, and bears are ________. Worms and mushrooms are_________

The TOP of the left side of the has a question mark and is referred to as the WARM-UP. This “warm-up” is either on a handout, the whiteboard or on Powerpoint. It acts as a review before the start of class and should be completed within the first FIVE minutes of class. Fill in the missing word. Decomposer Producers Consumers Plants are _________. Lions, tigers, and bears are ________. Worms and mushrooms are_________

The day’s activity is placed on the LEFT or OUTPUT side of the notebook. This is indicated with a yellow light bulb icon. This section acts as a reinforcement for the RIGHT or INPUT side side and is referred to as the WARMUP. This side entails hands on, tactile learning.

Chemistry Objectives NB-8 Understand the properties of matter and changes that occur when matter interacts in a closed system. 8.P.1.1 Classify matter as elements, compounds, or mixtures based on how the atoms are packed together in arrangements. 8.P.1.2 Explain how the physical properties of elements and their reactivity have been used to produce the current model of the Periodic Table of elements. 8.P.1.3 Compare physical changes such as size, shape and state to chemical changes that are the result of a chemical reaction to include changes in temperature, color, formation of a gas or precipitate. 8.P.1.4 Explain how the idea of atoms and a balanced chemical equation support the law of conservation of mass.

Chemistry Objective Tracking NB-9 Have students create graph to track EACH objective. I track Pretest, Form A, Form B, Form C Have them mark their GOAL (80%) and progress May want to swap This Page with the objective page (based on graph paper)
