3  The death rate from SARS was 9 to 12% of those diagnosed. In people over age 65, the death rate was higher than 50%. The illness was milder in younger patients.  Many more people became sick enough to need breathing assistance. And even more people had to go to hospital intensive care units

11  SPREAD WHEN FLEAS WERE INFECTED WITH BACTERIUM FROM RATS. THE FLEAS SPREAD IT TO HUMANS  Symptoms:  Headache  Chills  Fever  Exhaustion  Within a day or two, swellings appeared.  They were hard, painful, burning lumps on the neck, under the arms, on the inner thighs. Soon they turned black, split open, and began to ooze pus and blood. They may have grown to the size of an orange.

12  1. BUBONIC PLAGUE- PAINFUL SYMPTOMS AND HIGH FEVER (SPREAD BY FLEAS)  2. PNEUMONIC PLAGUE- SPREAD BY COUGHING AND SNEEZING. ALMOST ALWAYS FATAL!!!!!!!! ATTACKED THE LUNGS!!

13  33% OF EUROPE DIED FROM BLACK DEATH  SOME ESTIMATES HAVE GONE AS HIGH AS 45%

14  25 MILLION PEOPLE died (33%)  IT TOOK OVER 100 YEARS TO RECOVER FROM THESE LOSSES

15  CHURCH LOST ITS POWER AND PRESTIGE BECAUSE PEOPLES FAITH WAS SHAKEN  RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN UPPER AND LOWER CLASS WERE UNSTABLE BECAUSE OF THE SHORTAGE OF WORKERS  THIS LED TO PEASANT REVOLTS
