1 Alexander the Great What images come to mind when you hear the name Alexander the Great?

2 Philip II of Macedon Became interested in the Greek ways while being held as a hostage. Upon release he organized an army to start a new city state, because he felt he couldn’t depend on anyone but himself. Eventually united Thebes and Athens. Succeeded by his son Alexander.

3 Alexander the Great Trained by his father Philip and Aristotle. Was his goal to conquer the world and make it one empire. Took his army worldwide and ended up splitting the army. Many died from lack of food and exposure. Alexander contracted a fever and fought for 10 days before dying; he was 33. In 13 years Alexander almost never lost a battle.

4 Alexander’s Empire Alexander spread Greek culture anywhere the army went. He married a Persian woman, arranged marriages of 10,000 of his men to Persian women, so that Greek and Persia could join. After his death, generals divided the territory into 3 territories: Macedon, Egypt, Syria Shortly after the Romans defeated what was left of Alexander’s Empire.
