Why airplanes stall? What effects do airplanes have on global warming? How can airplanes be changed to be eco friendly? How do airplane engines work? How do radars work? By: Sebastian 5D

Why do airplanes stall? First of all, for a airplane to fly the wings have to look like this. The air has to flow around it. Some airplanes stall because their motors fail and stuff like that. But what I am talking about is airplanes stalling because of the angle of attack. The angle of attack is like the angle of the wing. For a plane to stall because of it’s angle of attack it is like its going up like a rocket. Then the wind is hitting the wing flat, and that makes it slow down. Less speed means less drag but more pull down because of the weight.

What effects do airplanes have on global warming? Airplanes release green house gasses. All of you should know what green house gasses are by now. Airplanes use fossil fuels so when they are burned they turn into green house gasses.

How can airplanes be changed to be eco friendly? I have seen ideas about solar powered airplanes and stuff like that. Richard Branson (The person who owns Virgin) is really interested in stopping global warming. I tried to ask him in his web but people vote for the best question so I wasn’t chose. This is what I wrote. I am an 11 year old student at Qatar Academy in Doha, we are starting a unit on the way we use energy. I want to research about ecofriendly airplanes and the effects that normal airplanes have on global warming. I was wondering if you could give me information or tell me where I can find information. I have read about you being interested in the environment and how transport can be ecofriendly. Thank you very much.

How do airplane engines work Airplane engines have a big propeller at the front. That propeller sucks in air and then there are more propellers that make the pressure higher. Then the air is sent to the combustion chamber were the air is mixed with fossil fuels and set on fire. In the combustion chamber the temperature reaches up to 1700% Celsius. After the air is heated it reaches another propeller but to make the pressure lower. After all that, the air is propelled out from the exhaust and the airplane is pushed forward. When the air is sent out it’s like you jumping but you can’t push the ground deeper, so you go up instead. That’s happens to airplanes.

How do radars work?  Radars work by sending some kind of waves. For example, airport radars send those waves out. When there is a airplane coming the waves hit the plane and bounce back. Then the shape of the radar is made to catch those waves. Then that information of how far the plane is from the control tower and were it is over the country for example Qatar is shown on a computer screen.
