3  Denmark's Area.  Denmark is a small country placed in the Northern Europe, and is bordered to the south by Germany, The country is surrounded by 4 seas. There’s only about 5.6 million Citizens, in Denmark, and has only a size on 43.090 square- kilometers. The country is almost totally flat, there are only a few hills, and consists of Jutland, which is a peninsula and two islands, which are called Funen and Zealand. There’s also a lot of forests and agriculture, in the land. Denmark is divided in many provinces.

5  Copenhagen:  Copenhagen is Denmark’s capital. Copenhagen has 1.213.822 inhabitants, and it is 3.030 square kilometers big.  There are many things to see in Copenhagen. E.g. Tivoli, Christiania, New Habor, Copenhagen Opera House, Rosenborg Castle, Round Tower, H.C. Andersen Statue, The Little Mermaid and many other things.  The Little Mermaid illustrates H.C. Andersen’s fairytale of the same name. It was a gift to Copenhagen, donated by the brewer Carl Jacobsen and made by sculptor Edvard Eriksen. As a model for the sculpture, Edvard Eriksen used his wife, Eline Eriksen. The statue was placed at Langelinie on the 23 rd of August, 1913. The Little Mermaid is one of Denmark’s biggest tourist attractions.

7  Islands  In Denmark we have 72 islands. The biggest island is Zealand. There are 2.130.541 inhabitants and our Capital is situated there. The second biggest island is Fyn. The world famous writer H. C. Andersen was born on Fyn. Bornholm is a really used holiday island, 626.000 tourist visited Bornholm last year. There has been made a song about Bornholm. The nature on Bornholm is really amazing. Læsø is another island and its salt is a world known ingredients, and it comes from the little Danish island. We have also had some islands in other countries from the time when we were Vikings but lost them again in war.

9  In Denmark we learn a lot different languages. Our main language is Danish which we speak all over the country. In school we learn a lot of English. We start learning English when we are about 9 years old. We also have English tests at the end of the school year. In school we also learn some German though we start learning it when we are a bit older than when we learn English. We also learn a little Norwegian and Swedish. We have always understood Norwegian and Swedish in Denmark because once our 3 countries were united in what we called the “Kalmar Union” and because of that our 3 languages are very much alike. You can compare it to Portuguese and Spanish

11  Vikings: The Vikings were the Scandinavian explorers, warriors, and pirates who raided Europa from the 8th century to the 11th century. They are known all over the world, even today. The Vikings believed in the Nodic Mythology, until the start of the 10 century, where Christianity came to Scandinavia. The Nordic Mythology is known in many films, not only in Scandinavia, but also from the Americans. The movie ‘’Thor’’ and ‘’The Avengers’’ which is two famous American movies, are based on the Nordic Mythology. The Danish royal Family The Danish Monarchy is the oldest in Europa, and the second oldest right after the Japanese monarchy. The Danish monarchy as we know it started in the 18th century. But it all started in the 9th century, the first king was named ‘’Gorm den gamle’’ in Danish speech, which is translated to ‘’Gorm the old’’ in English. And from there on there have been more than 40 kings.

13  The Danish monarchy is the oldest in the World. Established around the 8 th century by the first Danish king: Gorm The Old. Who was according to a legend was the first king of Denmark. His son Harald Bluetooth rose the Jelling stones which is the Danish version of the Declaration of Independence. The Danish Monarchy is probably one of if not the oldest monarchy in the world. In more recent times the Danish kings are named either Christian or Frederik. On June the 5 th 1849 Denmark became a constitutional monarchy. A peaceful march was made in Copenhagen and the king met the protesters. And a constitutional monarchy was formed. A constitutional monarchy is where the parliament and the then ruling king of Denmark his majesty King Frederick VII of Denmark both rule in unison. So both the royalty and the people is heard. Today Denmark is ruled by Queen Margaret II of Denmark. And the crown prince is Prince Frederik.

15  Denmark is known for their happy citizens, we are a small but happy society. In Denmark we are only 5,6 million people but even though we are so small numbered we all have managed to live together. We are a country where we can look and accept people for their different ways of living. We are good at helping people who need it.

16 - Dannebrog, the Danish flag. Dannebrog, is the oldest national flag in the world. In Danish culture, it is very known for our legendary battle against England in 1219 where Dannebrog dropped from the sky, and made Denmark win the battle, that they were loosing.

17 - Our Royal Family consist of our queen, our 3 princes and our 2 princesses

18 Mærsk - Maersk A/S is the biggest shipping company in the world, it was made in 1904 by the Danish A.P Moeller Maersk who died not long ago.

19 - ’’The Little Mermaid’’ is a popular fairy tale by the Danish poet and author Hans Christian Andersen about a young mermaid willing to give up her life in the sea and her identity as a mermaid to gain a human soul and the love of a human prince.

20 - Bang & Olufsen is a Danish company that designs and manufactures audio products, television sets and telephones. It was founded in 1925 by Peter Bang and Svend Olufsen.

21 - Copenhagen is the capital of Denmark. Copenhagen has a population of 1.6 million people and it is also a very international city.

22 - Denmark is the founder of the sport handball.

23 - Was founded in 1898 in a small village called Lem. Since then has much happened and now vestas is one of the biggest energy research corporation. Vestas produce wind energy.

24 - The Viking age lasted from 800-1050. Vikings were the people who lived in Scandinavia at the time they were known for their brutality and their way of plunder. They were feared by everyone.

25 - Denmark has the second highest taxes in the entire world, right after Sweden. With high taxes, there follows both good and bad things, such as the fact, that we are able to offer a place to live to everybody but we do not have as many rich people, as other countries with low taxes.

26 - Denmark is the third richest country in the world, which means that we have plenty of money to help the people who need it, and make a good society.

27 - Denmark has been rewarded as the happiest and most smiling people in the entire world.

28 Lego is a big Danish company that was made by the Danish Ole Kirk Christiansen in 1949. Lego is a toy for kids where they can build what they want.

29 - The Carlsberg Group is a Danish brewing company founded in 1847 by J. C. Jacobsen after the name of his son Carl. The headquarters are in Copenhagen, Denmark. Carlsberg produce beer to the entire world.
