4 The news stories they read are informed by the interpretation of the journalists and political bias of the newspaper. They may buy these papers because they reflect the political view they agree with

5 TV V.effective medium to commutate entertainment, advertising and news. BBC only publically owned. Licence fee pays for it. It does not rely on advertising. In order to attract advertising, the commercial TV stations must show..... The programmes on the BBC vary from those on commercial channels in that the BBC programmes.......

6 Read activity and complete these questions. Is it right to be concerned with the levels of sex and violence on TV? Do you think that violence in video games effects people who watch them? Why might it be difficult to prove a connection between viewing violent images and violent behaviour?

9 Media Ownership The person who owns the media can dictate what goes into the news. Rupert Murdoch. 175 newspapers including The Sun, News Corporation, BskyB and 21 st century Fox. How effective was his agenda to try and influence public opinion on the war in Iraq and Afghanistan? 10 homework Go to bbc.co.uk and search “Murdoch: I decide Sun’s politics” article. Answer Explain the ways in which a media owner can exercise power. Who has more power in terms of the media – citizens or media owners?
