2. You will be able to:  Take personal security measures while commuting to work and while traveling for work.  Identify unsafe conditions while traveling.  Take appropriate measures to help insure safe travel.

3.  Keep windows up and doors locked.  Stay on well-traveled, well-lit roads whenever possible.  Keep vehicles in good condition and gassed up.  Never pick up strangers.

4.  Know what to do in case of a breakdown.  Know what to do if you feel threatened.

5.  Stay on well-traveled streets.  Avoid shortcuts.  Walk briskly and confidently.  Avoid wearing headphones.  Avoid wearing expensive jewelry.  Keep personal items close to your body.

6.  Have your fare ready.  Stand back from the edge of platforms.  Chose a safe seat.  Keep alert.  Hold on to personal items.  Don’t return stares or comments.

7.  Keep your vehicle locked.  Try to walk with others.  Have your key ready.  Check before you get in.  Lock doors as soon as you’re in.  Report strangers or suspicious activity.

8.  Make sure someone knows where you are.  Keep your work area well lit.  Keep alert.  Be extra cautious when using rest rooms, stairs, and elevators.  Let someone know when you leave.

9.  Avoid confrontation.  Let the person get away.  Continue on your way.  Call for help.  Be ready to describe the intruder.

10.  Threats or intimidation.  Frequent angry outbursts.  Talk about weapons.  Paranoia.  Blaming others for problems.  Extreme mood swings or stress.

11.  Report threats and troubling behavior.  Arrange a danger signal with co-workers.  If confronted, try to get away.  If you can’t get away, remain calm and try not to provoke a violent reaction.
