So then this happens... 1 You realize that your certification is expiring next summer and you need a few more CEUs. You’d prefer to find workshops related to transition (of course!).

Let’s Connect 1.Count off by 9 2.First 9 people to count off will get the card that matches their number and find a spot to get comfortable 3.Everyone else meets their group 4.Introduce yourselves Don’t forget to bring your device!

So then this happens...2 A student’s case manager calls from the ARD meeting and says: “The parent of my student received the ARD notice and wants to attend. The student does not want the parent to be there.” The student is 19 years old.

So then this happens... 3 The principal for the high school says: “The special education students are hurting our graduation accountability. What are you going to do to make sure they don’t continue beyond their 4 th year of high school?”

So then this happens...4 The CTE teacher for Career Prep says: “I’m not allowed to modify the TEKS, so you’ll need to ARD the student out of my class.” The student has classroom support from a paraprofessional and consult from the special education teacher. The ARD decided the Gen Ed environment is the LRE for this student.

So then this happens...5 The special education director says: “We’re out of compliance for SPP 13 because we’re not including any transition goals for students who are turning 14 this year.”

So then this happens...6 When you’re trying to complete a transition assessment, your student says: “Why are you asking me all these questions? I don’t know what I want to do after high school.”

So then this happens...7 A parent wants to know why the school won’t let her daughter graduate with an Endorsement. The student took STAAR Modified for the English I EOC and receives modifications in ELA classes. Her ARD committee determined that passing the state assessment will not be required for graduation.

So then this happens...8 A new teacher will be leading his first ARD where transition will be discussed, and wants to know how to prepare.

So then this happens... 9 The ARD facilitator says: “Students can’t lead their ARDs, it will take too long. We need to keep ARDs to 30 minutes.”

So then this happens...10 The college and career counselor tells a parent: “I don’t know about college resources for students with disabilities. You’ll have to ask the ARD committee.”

So then this happens... 11 Write your own scenario...

What’s On Your Mind?
