2. Basic Needs – The Big Ideas Plants need air, water, nutrients, and light. Plants use energy from sunlight to make their own food from water and carbon dioxide in a process called photosynthesis. Plants have systems to move nutrients and water through them.

Ask them to follow the procedure described in the passage. –Have students discuss observations and record them to share with the entire class.
