PROCESSES Maintenance of KIS through established course approval and review processes Creating a KIS for new courses Amending a KIS following periodic review Amending a KIS following major change to a course – Module maintenance Publishing and displaying programme specifications on course finder webpage Other information fields: accreditation, fees, accommodation

Creating a KIS for new courses

PROCESS FOR NEW COURSES Integrated into existing course development and approval processes Title approved by ADC – Course record created in SITS – KIS course record created – Course displayed on UoB course finder website In-cycle KIS submission – Follows ADC calendar – Includes KIS records for all new course titles and course stage estimates Validation – Course stage estimates reviewed/ confirmed (ASC02) – Non-LTA course information submitted (KIS course info amendment form)

NEW COURSE: TYPICAL PATHWAY Initial display of learning/ teaching and assessment data – Estimated for each course stage/ year of study – Based on realistic planning assumptions – ADC01E submitted within 4 weeks of ADC Changes to estimates following validation: ASC02 Typical pathway introduced as students take modules Course stageKIS 2014 entryKIS 2015 entryKIS 2016 entryKIS 2017 entry Module data20122013200142015 1EstimatedTypical pathway 2Estimated Typical pathway 3Estimated Typical pathway

Amending a KIS following course changes Periodic review Changes to modules PSRB accreditation

PROCESS FOR COURSES IN PERIODIC REVIEW Applies to review of courses during current academic session Annual KIS preparation (May onwards) – Institutional schedule of periodic review circulated for confirmation – Notification of major changes expected Amendments (i) annual submission or (ii) in-cycle Periodic review – ASC02: course stage estimates for each year with major changes – KIS course info amendments form: confirmation of compulsory sandwich years/ years abroad, integrated foundation years, non credit-bearing (threshold) assessment tasks, PT only mode of attendance, accreditation, and accommodation New modules – Module records created by faculty/ school CAMS officer

PROCESS FOR COURSES IN PERIODIC REVIEW (2) LTA data estimated for each course stage where modules changed Notification of estimates for affected course stages: ASC02 e.g. BA(Hons) University Challenge reviewed in 2012-13 – modules in year 1 and 3 change, year 2 modules remain unchanged – changes effective from Sep 2013 for all students Course stageKIS 2014 entryKIS 2015 entryKIS 2016 entryKIS 2017 entry Module data2012201320142015 Module introducedSep 2013 1EstimatedTypical pathway 2 3EstimatedTypical pathway

PERIODIC REVIEW Changes to modules anticipated? Course finder web page Confirmation of scheduled reviews (April) SITS – KIS course record Annual submission (August) KIS widget NO Course stage estimates and non-LTA info confirmed ASC02 Unistats YES New module records created Annual submission Module record unchanged KIS course info amendments form

PROCESS FOR NON-PERIODIC REVIEW COURSE CHANGES Changes automatically reflected in typical pathway May come from other schools/ modules owned by other courses – annual module changes – periodic review Amendments reflected through regular module maintenance in CAMS Other e.g. accreditation – Use KIS course information amendments form

MODULE MAINTENANCE LTA data automatically rolled forward from previous year’s MAV record Module changes are approved by FABs in the usual manner Amendments only necessary following approval of changes to learning activities or assessment methods – KIS typical pathway: system will automatically select the appropriate year and module record – Module maintenance should continue without reference to potential effects of changes on a KIS

Learning/ teaching activities Assessment methods 2012 module record used in typical pathway for KIS 2014 entry (i.e. August 2013 submission)

PROCESS FOR ADDING ACCREDITATION PSRBs drawn from HESA list of recognised accrediting bodies – List updated annually by HESA – Can request that PSRBs be added to list – Details submitted through KIS course info amendments form Annual publication of University list of PSRB engagements – New accreditations added – Withdrawn/ expired accreditations removed – Faculty Office provides details as needed
