It is reported that thousand of tourist come to the place every year. The complex mixture of scenic beauty and magical culture of the Torajan have known for years. In 1974, Neckermann, one of the biggest German tour operator, started bringing large number of foreign tourist to the place. When tourist first come, the locals were happy as they could learn something from the outside world. There was a great hope that tourism would increase their economy.
