1. www.buffalo.edu Abstract During this study, we researched four different disorders. We looked at all of the different symptoms, causes, etc. The topics that were researched were cerebral palsy, polio, meningitis, and stroke. We discussed the similarities and differences between the four disorders and discovered they are quite alike and different in many ways. Introduction Research Picture 1: Cerebral Palsy is a disorder of movement and it’s caused by injuries or abnormalities of the brain. The problems usually happen while the baby is still in the womb or the first 2 years of life, while the brain is still developing. Picture 2: Premature infants have a slightly higher risk of developing cerebral palsy. It’s caused by many different things such as lack of oxygen being delivered to the brain or a traumatic head injury, like from a motor vehicle accident, fall or child abuse. Picture 3: Meningitis is an inflammation of the membranes surrounding your brain and spinal cord, usually due to the spread of an infection. Some symptoms of this condition include headache, fever and a stiff neck in anyone over the age of 2. Picture 4: Meningitis usually results from a viral infection, but the cause may also be a bacterial infection. Less commonly, a fungal infection may cause meningitis Research Conclusion In our studies, we discovered that these four topics had a lot of similarities. A lot of the symptoms are alike. Each different problem has severe symptoms and cases. We saw how all theses were a lot different too. Each has different symptoms and treatments. Our results were supported by information we found online. We discovered that all of these problems have extreme cases that affect people for the rest of their life. The typical person that is easily affected for all of these is toddlers and infants. Our results supported our hypothesis that they could all hurt people. One symptom of Cerebral Palsy is variations in muscle tones while a symptom of Meningitis is stiff neck. Also a symptom of Stroke is trouble with walking. Lastly, a symptom of Polio is muscle spasms or tenderness. Cerebral Palsy, Stroke, Polio and Meningitis are also similar in many ways. All of the disorders have symptoms dealing with fever, inability to move muscles easily, and confusion. Many websites gave us information on all of these problems. We searched our topic on the internet and found a lot of information that we can use to show how they all are similar and different. Picture 5: A stroke occurs when the blood supply to part of your brain is interrupted or severely reduced, depriving brain tissue of oxygen and food. Within minutes, brain cells begin to die. Picture 6: To determine the best treatment for your stroke, your emergency team must figure out what type of stroke you're having and what parts of your brain it's affecting. Other possible causes of your symptoms, such as a brain tumor or a drug reaction, also need to be ruled out. Picture 7: Polio is a contagious viral illness that in its most severe form causes paralysis, difficulty breathing and sometimes death. Picture 8: Paralytic polio can lead to temporary or permanent muscle paralysis, disability, and deformities of the hips, ankles and feet. Although many deformities can be corrected with surgery and physical therapy, these treatments may not be options in developing nations where polio is still endemic.
