2 12/22/2015 Purpose  To give an update of the Ontario Justice Video Network (JVN) and its implementations of innovative technology services into the Ontario Justice Sector  To outline how video and converged communications services are integrated in Ministry business areas. These include; Court Services Correctional Services Police Youth Justice The Far North 2

3 12/22/2015 Overview  The Justice Video Network (JVN) is one the largest videoconferencing and converged communications network in an integrated justice environment  Ontario is considered a leader in this space among both public and private sector organizations  JVN was created in 1999 by the Ontario Justice Ministries as more than 180,000 inmates were regularly transported from correctional facilities to court  The use of videoconferencing provides for a more secure Ontario by minimizing the number of accused persons that are transported  Video was initially used for remands and bail, hence the initial name – the “video remand & bail project”  Today JVN has grown and is used for first appearance, bail, remand, education & training, remote testimony, telemedicine, legal aid, video remote interpretation 3
