5 Individual Work  What have you learned about ancient Greek theater today? Answer without looking at your book or notes.

6 Individual Response  To whom are you most loyal? Is it your family? Or your friends? Or who else? Write at least six sentences explaining your choice.

7 Warm-up  Groupwork: arrange loyalty strips by importance and share

8  Internal conflict and Moral Dilemma  “Antigone” is the story of a woman whose moral beliefs conflict with the law.

9  Groupwork: read newspaper article about Kentucky teenager. Decide: (1) what happened to her (2) what law she broke (3) why did she break it and (4) do you agree with her decision?

10 Independent Practice  Research and write about another notable law-breaker. Explain (1) what law they broke (2) why they broke it and (3) why you agree or disagree with them (six sentences or more)

11 Antigone Background  “Antigone,” along with “Oedipus the King” and “Oedipus at Colonus” make up Sophocles’ Theban Trilogy.  In order to master “Antigone,” we must understand the background of this family’s story.

13 Pairwork  Make a family tree for the characters. If they are connected by marriage, use a solid line, if they are connected by blood use a dotted line.  Oedipus, Antigone, Ismene, Eteocles, Polyneices, Creon, Laius, Jocasta

14 Individual Work  Maury Show:  “Is your family seriously dysfunctional? Call 1-800-MAURY!!!”  Write a letter to the Maury show. It should explain Oedipus’ family’s problems in at least one full page of text.
