What is the Art Assignment?  The Art Assignment exposes the audience to a different contemporary artist each week.  This artist give the audience and art assignment to complete and share on social media (#TheArtAssignment). “Harnessing the meme-loving, community- building power of the internet, The Art Assignment brings new audiences to contemporary art and contemporary artists to new audiences” (The Art Assignment, 2015)

Sarah Urist Green ( @SWUSUG)@SWUSUG  Creator and Host of the Art Assignment  Former Curator of Art at the Indianapolis Museum of Art  MA in Modern Art History  “There are numerous examples in art history of artists giving themselves or others instructions as a form of art- making. I saw this overlap as a possible way of exposing the internet generations to contemporary art, and as a way of legitimizing and celebrating the enormous creative output that the internet and social media has made possible” (Urist Green in Robertson, 2013)

21.  How did this art assignment make you think about the digital context?  How does this relate to what we have learned or experienced in LIS9372? “With the internet it is hard for something special to rise to the surface and yet we all put so much energy towards this thing. We’re all constantly dumping our attention and energy into this place that reduces everything to one context” (Rogan, 2015)
