Visualization and Conception

Sin City The film Sin City is based on graphic novels by Frank Miller. Directed by Frank Miller, Robert Rodriguez, Special Guest Director Quentin Tarantino Released 2005 Rated MA15+

The Idea Visualization is about the idea behind a movie. The idea for this movie was not to make a comic book movie but to directly translate Frank Miller’s Sin City graphic novels to the big screen.

Frank Miller Big comic book artist from 70’s & 80’s Not keen to make movie out of his novels because they were his pride and joy.

Robert Rodriguez Had the idea to make the Sin City movie for several years. Did The Adventures of Shark Boy and Lava Girl. A movie which has the same cartoon feel.

Conceptualization It wasn’t hard to imagine this movie as it was intended to be exactly like the graphic novels. The problem was the Frank Miller wasn’t keen to let his idea go. Rodriguez convinced Miller to allow for a 1 day test shoot. After a 10 hour shoot they has managed to shoot the opening scene and convince Miller. This scene was used to get other actors on board.

Plot This movie consists of four stories by Frank Miller. Which all twist around one another. The Customer is Always right. Opening scene which was shot in the test shoot.

That Yellow Bastard Lead Detective John Hartigan (Willis) A cop, last day on job, tries to tie up a loose end, half succeeds, protects the girl doesn’t catch the criminal. Rest of his story is about finishing the job. Feel sympathy because he gets betrayed by his partner and has a heart condition.

The Hard Goodbye Thug named Marv (Rourke) spends the night with Goldie, awakes to find that he’s been framed for her death. His story follows him trying to avenge her death. Feel sympathy because he’s loner who get framed.

The Big Fat Kill In this story Dwight (Owen) chases his girlfriends ex and his mates to Old Town where the group get murdered only to discover that the ex is a cop. The story follows him trying to cover up the murder and protect the hookers of Old Town. Feel sympathy because he's cool and was just trying to do the right thing.

Locations Because of the nature of this movie is was all shot in front of a green screen. Only 3 sets were constructed and they were, Kadie's Bar Shellie's apartment The hospital corridor
