3 Information Privacy What is the first rule for using the Internet safely? Remain as ANONYMOUS as possible!

4 Kids should never put the following on the Internet: full name home address phone number Social Security number passwords names of family members credit card numbers

5 Usernames Don’t use your real name on websites and in social media applications. Select a username that you will remember but doesn’t reveal your real identity. Try a username generator if you need help! username generatorusername generator

7 Social Networking A Social Network is a place on the Internet where people connect. These include sites like Facebook, Myspace, blogs, chatrooms and online gaming.

8 Social Networking A good rule of thumb: Make your profile settings private so you can control who sees your page Make your profile settings private so you can control who sees your page

9 Social Networking Go through your profile and remove any personal information Report comments to the site if they are inappropriate Tell your parents if anything happens online that makes you feel scared or uncomfortable Only communicate with people you know! Do’s...

12 Cyberbullying Some people take advantage of the anonymity of the Internet (the ability to withhold their identity) to let their mean sides take over, saying things to people they would probably NEVER say face to face.

15 Netiquette Netiquette are the rules that have developed as people have begun to communicate and interact on the Internet.

16 Netiquette A few netiquette rules: NEVER WRITE IN ALL CAPITAL LETTERS! Do not tell lies or falsehoods Before forwarding emails, think about whether the sender would want you to Think about how your words will be interpreted Don’t treat others differently than you would in person Emoticons can help explain your intention :-)
