Evaluation Question 2: How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts? By Eleanor Wright

Evaluation Question 2 Our unique selling point of our trailer is that it is set in Brighton and that it is a modern film but has a vintage film noir feel to it as well. Our tagline ‘Open your eyes’ is a hint at what the film is about, the fact that our main character Vera has to open her eyes to see what is really happening and who is the murder. I think it is interesting and eye catching to people as I think it fits in with our title of our film ‘Brighton I’. Looking at ‘Brighton Rock’ I think our film is very similar to it, so I would give it the same classification of 15. I think out Target audience is 15 to 40 year olds I think the plot it our film ‘Brighton i’ will appeal to many ages, due to it having an adult plot but still being able to be understood by younger people. It would also be for both sexes as it does have the action with in it that men stereotypically like but it has a woman protagonist so it will appeal to woman in our target audience as well. Which will make it also a good film for couples to see together. As I mentioned before as we have a woman protagonist, this makes our film quite postmodern as normally you have a man as a protagonist but this postmodern element will I think attract a younger and more independent film fans to our movie.

Evaluation Question 2 We would also have to think about the Social Economic Grouping of our film. This is a term that explains groups of class for example working class, there are six main groups dependent on things for example like your job or household income. We have to think which of these groups will our film appeal to in our target audience. I think our film can appeal to all classes as it is a film that is about a woman that is middle class but comes from a lower class background this I think will attract many different groups of people making our target audience quite big in size. A film similar to ours which is Brighton Rock the one made in 2010. That made a gross profit of £708,616 (uk) according to the website IMDB. So as I think that it is simlar to our film so I think it would do simlar to it if It was ever to be bigger.

Evaluation Question 2 Our film poster I think works well with our trailer as it is in a similar film noir style. The fact it is black and white I think fits with this and makes it stand out to our target audience of more of an independent market also the font that it like a vintage typewriter style on our poster adds to this style and will attract people who like vintage films. Our main image of our main character on Brighton pier shows our target audience where are film is set and this will attract people that know Brighton or live in that area. Also because there aren’t many films set there it makes our film unique and so our poster unique as well. Our tag line/ USP ‘open your eyes’ sounds quite mysterious, so I think because our film is kind of like a detective murder mystery this fits well and our target audience will like it. Looking at posters that our similar to ours and where why are placed it would be mainly on bus stops, and on buildings and shops around Brighton and London. As I think because of our independent style of film, we wouldn’t be able to adored big billboards etc..

Evaluation Question 2 The purpose of film magazines is to get to the target market of people who really like films. Our magazine cover image promotes are main actress as she is not well known this will promote her and make her interesting to people who like to be the first to know about new actors/actress’. It also is in black and white like are poster this will show people the film noir style we have in our film, which is our films USP. As our photo is black and white I used bold and colorful using reds, whites and yellows. But we did use the same font in places on the magazine, as we had on the poster and in the trailer. To attract our target audience more I used lines like ‘Brighton i takes over’ and ‘free poster’ this will entice people to want to read it and find our more about our film.

Evaluation Question 2 Our film trailer will be used on social networking sites like Facebook. This will promote it cheaply and to a lot of people. Also around Brighton where our film is set we will put on the ground a white chalk outline of a body like you used to get in old crime films where a person had been murdered and have #openoureyes which is our tag line and if they go onto the social networking site twitter and type that in then they will come to our twitter page. This will fit with our film noir, old style film trailer and with our younger target audience that will use twitter. We had inspiration off of the film Monsters and how they created infected zones around London to promote their film. Over all this will get our film out even further as social networking using Web 2.0 will make people interact with our marketing.
